ANALGESIC USE OF CHLORHIDRATE OF KETAMINE APPLIED BY EPIDURAL ADMINISTRATION IN DOGS (Canis familiaris).
The research was carried outside the small animal`s clinic in the Facultad de Zootecnia of the Universidad Nacional de Piura. The objective was to evaluate the analgesic effect of the chlorhidrate of ketamine applied by epidural administration in dogs. Thirty dogs were divided in three groups, groups A, B, and C. Chlorhidrate of ketamina 10% was administered in doses of 5, 10 and 15 mg/kg respectively. The evaluation was made based on the lack or presence of nociceptive and proprioceptive reflexes. The results were: the onset average time of the analgesic effect was 2, 4 ± 0,5164 minutes in group A, 1,9 ± 0,3162 minutes in group B and 1,8 ± 0,3496 minutes in group C; the average time of duration of the analgesic effect was 33,9 ± 6,208 minutes in group A, 55,2 ± 6,052 minutes in group B and 71,3 ± 5,272 minutes in group C. Orchidectomies were performed on all three groups, ovariohysterectomies were not possible to complete in group A and B, nevertheless they were performed successfully in group C.
