SUMMARY
The present research was carried out in the laboratory of Veterinary Physiology of the Veterinary Science Faculty of The National University of Cajamarca, which is located between the parallels 7º10' south latitude and 78º38' west longitude, at an altitude of 2536 meters above the sea level, during the months from January to March, 1999.
The research has been done with the purpose of establishing haematological reference values to Holstein friesian cows in the Cajamarca valley through the mean ± 1.96 standard error. One hundred and seven (107), female cows Holstein friesian, "apparently healthy", were used in the research. The blood samples were taken through the punction of the coccigea vein, into tubes containing EDTA as anticoagulant. At the end of the research the following results were found: from 4.2 to 8.6 x 106 /ul, for the Erythrocytes, from 25.7 to 40.5 % for the Packed Cell Volume (PCV), from 8.6 to 13.3 g/dl for the Haemoglobin (Hb), from 40.3 to 64.1 fl for the Mean Corpuscular Volume(MCV), from 12.8 to 21.8 pg for the Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin (MCH), from 27.6 to 39.0 g/dl for the Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin Concentration (MCHC); from 5.0 to 13.6 x 103 /ul for the Leucocytes, from 11 to 43 % or 1.0 to 3.8 x 103 /ul for Segmented Neutrophils, from 0 to 2.9 % or 0 to 0.3 x 103 /ul for Non-Segmented Neutrophils, from 0 to 22 % or 0 to 2.1 x 103 /ul for Eosinophils, from 0 to 1.9 % or 0 to 0.14 x 103 /ul for Basophils, from 37 to 77 % or 1.8 to 8.8 x 103 /ul for Lymphocytes, from 0 to 11 % or 0 to 1.1 x 103 /ul for Monocytes.
